Sniffim
Bnei Akiva of New York organizes several Sniffim, local branches, throughout the New York and New Jersey area. During the year, BANY Sniffim provide fun and educational programming for elementary and middle school children, both on Shabbat and on the occasional Sunday as well. Our programs are run with the intention of infusing the lives of Jewish youth with the values of Torah and Yiddishkeit, a heartfelt dedication to Israel, and having lots fun in the process.
Our Sniffim are headed by committed college-age students who seek to inspire Jewish youth to develop a deep commitment to Am Yisrael, Eretz Yisrael, and Torat Yisrael. High school students take on important roles in their Snif as Madrichim and participate in several leadership-training programs, seminars, and Shabbatonim throughout the year. They develop valuable life skills and learn how to create and run educational programming for their community's youth, all the while strengthening their personal commitment to Torah V'Avodah and the future of Klal Yisrael.
Niva Gurewitsch serves as Merakezet Sniffim in New York. She is from Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from Beth Tfiloh High School. She is currently an undergraduate at Stern College in Manhattan, and is pursuing a combined BA-MSW degree in Social Work with a focus on children's advocacy. Niva was a Chanicha at Camp Moshava IO, attended Mach Hach Ba'Aretz Hesder, was a Madricha in her hometown Snif, and then became a Rosh Snif in Baltimore during her senior year in high school. She has been involved in BANY since she moved to Manhattan in 2006, and is very excited to watch the Sniffim in New York and New Jersey grow and flourish, and to work with all of the new (and some old) tzevet to make this year BANY's most successful one yet!
